Salt Dough for Homemade Ornaments!

Salt Dough for Honemade Ornaments and Crafts

It makes a great, quick gift idea for family, friends,  or even that special caregiver in your life. Plus it's a fun craft to do when it's cold and yucky outside.

Salt Dough is a dough(like cookie dough) that can be dried after being firmed to make tree ornanments and other crafts.

***Please don't eat it, it's yucky!

2 cups flour

1 cup salt

1 tsp alum

3/4 cup water

🎀🎀🎀 Step-By-Step 🎀🎀🎀

1.   Gather ingredients and mix the dough. It should look like a nice cookie dough when finished.

2.  Roll out the dough and use cookie cutters to make shapes. Or form shapes by hand. Keep your shapes about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. If you make them thicker they may take longer to dry. Thinner and they may break to easily.

3.  If you are hanging them on a tree, insert metal loop into the dough to use for hanging. Simply take a ornament hook and twist it so that it has a loop on one end and push the points into the dough.

Or you can cut a small hole (about the size of a straw) in the dough before baking.

4.  Lay shapes on a baking sheet and bake in 250 degree oven for about 2 hours.

5.  Let them cool.

6.  Now that they are done you can either hang them as is or paint them! Use glitter and go crazy!

Unpainted Ornaments will be a light tan in color.

You could even use food coloring in the dough before baking to color your ornanments.

******** Other ideas:  make cups, plates, hand prints, anything you can form in play dough you can form in salt dough.
